We will examine the relationship of being Japanese and Christian from Inazo Nitobe’s point of view. We will also
examine the basic message main-stream Japanese Christian writers are presenting. Then we will study Christian lay leaders in Japan and the significance and influence they have in everyday life.

Araki, Izumi graduated from Regent College in 2007 and continues her study/writing on Nitobe Garden in
UBC as well as currently working on the research on Japanese and Anne of Green Gables. She has been involved
in reaching out to Japanese in Vancouver since 2006 and is currently serving with OMF Diaspora Ministry with the
Japanese in Canada, stationed in Vancouver.
